The ball valve is the most used for opening and closing water, air and steam lines thanks to its tight quarter-turn shut-off. The usual question is simple: stainless or bronze?
What 1000 WOG means
WOG stands for Water, Oil, Gas. A rating of 1000 WOG means the valve withstands 1000 psi in water, oil or gas service at ambient temperature. It's the most common standard in ball valves from 1/4" to 4".
Bronze valve
- More economical.
- Excellent for water, air and low-pressure gas.
- Widely used in industrial and commercial plumbing.
- Lower resistance to highly corrosive or saline environments.
Stainless steel 304 valve
- Maximum corrosion resistance.
- Ideal for steam, chemicals, food industry and marine environments.
- Longer service life in demanding conditions.
- Higher upfront cost, but lower long-term cost in aggressive environments.
Rule of thumb
If the line is water or air indoors, bronze works perfectly. If there's salinity (Panama's coastal areas), steam or chemicals, stainless 304 pays for itself by avoiding replacements. At YRVIMAR we carry both in all sizes.
